Retiring the Lauhala Collection

Lauhala CuffWhen we began designing our Paradisus jewelry line, the traditional weave done with the native Hala Pandanus leaf was one of our first inspirations.  The weave created a soft geometric pattern which was perfect for the “repousse” hammered technique used by the artisans.  Just like the real Lauhala mats and hats where each pattern is a little different, so it is with each bracelet, bangle, and earring set.  No two are alike.

It is with  reservation that we have decided to retire the Lauhala Collection.  To view the entire collection, go to the website <www.paradisusjewelry.com>.  There are pieces still available at Nohea Gallery, Riches in Kahala and at Palm Palm on the island of Kauai. This group will not be re-ordered.

Remembering the Family

2010 was the year of the Kometani Family Reunion.  This summer it was held at the Hilton Waikaloa Hotel for three days with some 130 family and friends now reaching 6 generations.  Traveling from all areas of the United States, we gathered for some good local food, competitive games and just plain ol’ camaraderie and “catching up.”

The family crest or MON is the logo design used for correspondences, website and ti-shirt.   This year we wanted to offer a more permanent memento of the weekend…so a silver charm that could be added to a charm bracelet or worn as a pendant was created.  The design was cut into a round medallion…simple and precise.

Let us create a pendant or charm for your special group be it a family crest, a club emblem, or a team logo.  We can produce this in Sterling silver  for special remembrance.

Minimum orders may pertain.   Please call or email us for more information.

It’s that time again! Paradisus will be at the Merrie Monarch Festival, this year in a “pop-up” storefront called Kūikawā Boutique. This year we will be on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo town! There will be lots of fun and exciting things so be sure to come by.

There will be new items in the Sonny Ching Collection, designed with our Kumu Hula collaborator Sonny Ching. Moving into rings and jade, some of the new items are limited editions so be the first to see the latest.

Joining Paradisus and the Sonny Ching Collection, will be Kealopiko, Indigenous Soap Company, Saffron Perfume Company, Sleep Under the Stars, Meleana and Kuliana. All vendors from Hawaii.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Hawaiian language immersion education program.

Repousee, S’il Vous Plait

Bad French!!! Maybe, however Repoussee is not your fancy wine but is a term used in the field of jewelry and metal sculptures.

RepouseeRepousee is the technique used to craft most of Paradisus’ designs and is what gives it’s unique feel and voluptuous look. Repousee is an old French technique where metal is hammered from the back giving an organic natural form.  One of the most famous sculptures done in this method is the French made American “Statue of Liberty.”  Once the form or body is set, the details are scribed, textured and embellished to give it the finish to complete the story.

For many of the Paradisus’ Collections such as the Monstera and Lauhala, the pieces are then finished with a backing to stabilize the final form.  Each piece is individually ‘handmade” by Artisans in Indonesia who have managed to keep this technique alive.

Your piece is special and one of a kind….we hope you love and appreciate the craftsmanship.
